Just started after a long break - Guild Wars Forums

I just started up again after a long break and only have the original release version installed, I was told by a friend that this would work and I could still play. However when I logged in and reached the character select screen I had an error saying to buy the correct campaign from the internet store. However I dont wish to buy another campaign until I have played it some and see if I still enjoy it. So, is there anyway to play with just the original release version? Pre factions.

Do you have a trial version installed or a full retail version?

It sounds like you have a trail version, if so, then you need to purchase the retail version to continue playing.

EDIT: Make sure you're selecting a charature that's wasn't created in a trial version. Try creating a new charature and see if you have the same problem.

Did you use a trial key?

If so, check what campaign does the trial key refers to. The original campaign of Guildwars is Prophecies which is the first chapter followed by Factions and thirdly Nightfall. If you make a character from a different campaign, then that error should occur. Select only the same campaign as your trial access key when making a character

could be he is trying to play a char that was made during a preview event, so try 1 of your original chars

I baught prophicies when the game first came out, it had the original PvE campaign and the PvP part. AFAIK it wasn't a trial since I first played during trial, then went out and baught the full version.

you can see what all your account has access to:

at the character select screen, hit the Edit Account button... Click the box for Manage Access Keys...

It will bring up a list of any features you have, campaigns, preorder items, collectors edition dance, etc will all be on there.

It might just be something as simple as a "core class" toon that was born in a continent you dont have access to (i.e. if you made a non-dervish or non-paragon for the nightfall preview weekend) which would not be quite as noticable as if you had an assassin sitting there on your screen when you dont play factions.

Personally, I enjoyed GW much more the second time around - I came back a couple months into Factions. Hope you get it sorted out buddy.

Ok, thanks for the help those that helped, i got more info. I went to the edit access keys that the last poster talked about and it said I was registered for nothing. So I went to "add an access key" and put in the access key that is in the inside of the front cover of the GW CD case I have, and got a "that cd key is in use" error. So... I duno, that help anyone?

I went and found the box it came in as well, it does not say "GW prophecy" or anything, but it still has the 50$ best buy price tag so i really hope it wasnt a 50$ trial... anyway, all the box has on it is the word Guild Wars with a guy fighting a bone dragon on the inside, no chapter parts nothing else.

You're using the wrong account then, it must be the trial account you're logging into. Keep trying to figure out the other login information.

yup, sometimes i feel sooo stupid. I found the original computer it was on and it still had the account name saved to it so.. yeah thanks.
